O no, few days left of Christmas holiday

It was obvious that this was going to happen, decided to not do any work during the christmas holiday and now I only have a 6 days to do all my work, but if i crack on and do nothing but work for the next couple of days it should be fine.

Text and Image results

Couple of days ago i got my results back through the post for Text and Image, even though I passed i was still disapointed with the grade that I out, so for the Amnesty project i am going to try even header to get a better grade.

Finished for christmas - what have i got to do?

Yes, christmas holidays, loving it. Even though i loving Uni its nice to have a break, to be back at home with the family, just chilling out.

Britishness Poster

For this task i had to create a poster which would on my personal thoughts of what i think britishness is. So that i had more time to get on with other projects i thought id get this out the way a do it a couple days early before the deadline and not leaving it to the last minute.

My design i thought was good but i don't know if everyone would understand it, but i'll leave it for you to work out anyway.

2nd group task - Black Box

We had another exciting group task again today, which i enjoyed again, even though i most of the time i work by myself, i think it is nice to have these group tasks, to have ideas bouncing off each other. The aim of the day was to get are problem solving brains bubbling to out do the other groups.

First of all we were split in to are groups and given a brand product, and with this product we were to design a clue, so that the other group could try work out what the product is. The product we were given was Fairtrade bananas. For are clue we split are word into sections, into different words and sounds that they make and came up with images which matched the word or sound and then linked them in a row to make a chain of images.

For the second part of the day we were given the clue from the other group, and we were to decode it to work out what there brand product was, the clue we were given was a image of a resteraunt table with ojects on top, like glasses, knifes and forks plus a plate with a receipt on it. We thought that the receipt had a big part to do with it, because it was the vocal point of the piece, but we couldn't work out what the product was. We had an idea it could be to do with the Ritz hotel because it was written on the top of the receipt but we were wrong. After a log while of thinking we worked out that the product was AFTER EIGHTS. The clue that lead us to this was the time at the bottom of the receipt saying 8.30.

After working out the product we were to design a poster to advertise the brand product, in are group we decided to concentrate are poster on time, and having clocks which were always after eight, so to say there is never a time where u can't eat After Eights.

Visitor from Amnesty called Barry

Today we had a visitor come in, who works with Amnesty. Barry is a volunteer for Amnesty International and kindly took time out to come and show us a present about Amnesty and have a chat with us after about are project subject. This was really helpful, i got to learn more about Amnesty and about the perticuler problem i was looking at. Now that Barry has spoken to us, i now have a better insight, and more knowledge to work from.

New project and Spend More Save Less task

We started a new project today called Visual thinking and to start us thinking about ideas generation we were set a task to design some posters which will incourage people to spend there money to help with the recession at the moment, Spend more Save less.

I really enjoyed today, we got to work in a team to complete this task by 3 o'clock, then shown are designs infront of the class to get some feed back. Towards the start of the day we were just getting to know the rest of the group because we were with people we didnt normal speak to, so we were just having a few laughs which was good and as Kit said we were probably the group that has had the most fun.

After messing around for a bit we started off just by generating some ideas on a A2 piece of paper, then trying to develop some of the ideas on the computer. Finally ended up going for series of posters which included bold hard hitting text with a slit bit of humor. Simple but effective.

Hand in for Text and Image

Well the day has come, time has flown by. Will need to manage my time better in my nex projects. After a long day yesterday and a long night, and working to the last minute today, i have finished my project for Text and Image.

Im not to proud with myself on this project, i think i could of done much better, but we will see what happens, and i learfn from my mistakes.

Monday before hand in of Text and Image

Stil quite a bit to do for my project, note to self dont leave work to the last minute, start work as oon as handed to use. I am a bit worried because i dont know if ill finish in time. Have done alot of work through the day at uni, staying in to about 6 30 but still cracking on with it.

Grids and layouts and Quark

I had never used quark before, so i was a bit confused at the beggining but have developed my skills in the program. After using Quark for a day i found that i didnt lioke using this program and woul prefer to use Indesign.

Group crit on first ideas for book

The crit that i was involved in today took up most of the day, which wasn't bad because we did quite abit of work. I feel that the way the crit worked was a good experience for me and evry one else, because we were put into groups to talk about other groups work, this was helpfully because we got to speak about others work in a team and i got goo feedback from a group of other students.

Tutorial for Text and image

When i had a tutorial with kit, it gave me a better understanding of the project, and made me realise what i have to do, and what each section consists of. It gave me more ideas to better my project and made me feel better after.

Letterpress final session

The final session i thought went really well aswel, and this time i came up with some really interesting designs, we had to make a abstract image using a word, or words from are writen piece, and i think my design came out really well and i think there is alot to look at in the image which keeps your eye attached.

Illustrator first session

I didnt know illustrator that well before i started the session so it was really helpful to me to have some lessons on it. I learnt alot about illustrator in this session. Then when i went into the second session i built up again a better understanding of illustrator and came out with few few little designs.

Letterpress second session

This lesson went better this time, and i enjoyed it more, came up with some designs using some words from a poem about a journey of life. These designs came out really well i thought and were more eye catching this time, but that probably was because this time we used coloured inks and were setting them out better on the page.

Photoshop second session

In this lesson i just built up on things that i didnt know about photoshop, which was good because i may need to use those techniques in the future.

Photoshop first session

I thought this session was pretty pointless until the end of the lesson this is because i already know how to use photoshop but towards the end of the lesson i learnt a few things i didnt know which was good.

Letterpress first session

In this session we learnt how to use the letterpress techniques, and made a few bits of text using words we have chosen. Pieces of work came out ok but wasnt overly amazing.

London trip to see Kyle Cooper

The trip to London went really well, got to see a different place. Went in and had a look at a art exibition, where the art is from people who are in prison. Saw alot of places within London, i could only manage to take a few images though, this is because my camera broke while i was there. The reason for going to London was to see a designer could Kyle Cooper, and for him to show us his work, i really enjoyed this, it gave me a better understanding of the graphics/multimedia industry and his work inspired me, i thought some of his work was amazing and that i could learn something from his designs.

Drift Critique

When we did the drift critique it helped me out alot because it told me what the bad points and what i had to change. But instead of changing my design i started again and made a new design, which is better than the first one and works well at showing a journey.

Type and tape

The aim by the end of the day was to have created are own type using tape, we were to this in are groups, mine being a group of 4, using only tape todesign are typeface. First of all we just sketched a few ideas down, then played around with the tape to see its charastics, then we finally went outside and found a wall to do are designs on. The idea of are type to keep the charastic of the strong, sharp edge, but also to have it to feel like it is part of the wall, so carving the tape to follow the indents of the wall.

Illustration with card

We were asked to find a image from the pictures that we had taken in the poole trip and develop an illustration from that image. For this task i choose to use an image of the back of two boats, i choose this because its what reminds me most about poole, boats in the water tide up against the paving and also the text on the back of the boat had poole written on it. I think that my illustration came out ok, and reflected the image but it wasn't that powerful of an image.

Trip to Poole

The aim of the day was to go to Poole and take a selection of photos, and have a selection of hand drawn images. I think this day went ok, but not to the best i could be, this is because the wether was really bad and i wasn't the best of days to be drawing and taking photos, but a couple days later me and my mate went back to Poole and redone the task and know have some interesting photos and sketches, different styles of text, different types of text and good images of the landscape. This day out has given me some materials to look at if i was to start a project.
